[60 minute film from 1986 - Produced by Paul Fitzgerald – Now available on DVD]

Sam Feinstein had only one show of his paintings between 1959 and his death in 2003.  This exhibition took place from August 17 through August 30, 1986, at the Scargo Stoneware Gallery in Dennis , Massachusetts following years of urging by the owner, Harry Holl, who was one of Sam’s closest friends.  Sam finally agreed, but only if none of the works were offered for sale.  In this film Sam stands in front of his monumental, abstract paintings as he answers questions about his work, his philosophy of art, and his view toward showing and selling.  Following screenings of this film in recent years, there have been numerous requests for its public release.  Upon seeing the film, many viewers have exclaimed: “Now, I understand abstraction!”

All credit and thanks go to the producer, Paul Fitzgerald, who had the foresight and dedication to create this film in 1986, and who has now edited and produced this DVD.  In addition, he is generously donating all funds from the sale of these DVDs to the care and conservation of Feinstein’s paintings through the Feinstein Fund at the Cape Cod Museum of Art.
